On the banks of the Canal Saint-Martin, something unexpected is happening: Le Comptoir Général, an institution of Parisian nights, awakens to daylight.
From November 28 to December 24, the iconic address transforms into a one-of-a-kind Christmas destination — a curated boutique for vintage, fashion and design gifts, extended by a café-bookshop and a winter garden open all day long.
A month to rediscover Le Comptoir differently — to wander, to browse, to linger.
Bathed in soft winter light, the space unfolds like a sensory journey between independent creation and retro culture.
In this new rhythm of the day, Le Comptoir introduces Résidence, its curator-led boutique inspired by the 1960s to 1990s. Here, fashion pieces, design objects, books, vinyls and archival treasures are gathered in a warm scenography that celebrates materiality, craftsmanship and slow living.
Next door, the café-bookshop invites visitors to pause — a hot chocolate in hand, a vintage book to leaf through, or a quiet conversation that stretches through the afternoon.
The garden, open to the canal, extends the experience — a refuge to read, reconnect, or simply watch Paris go by.
“We wanted to reinvent Le Comptoir without betraying its soul,” the team explains.
The project’s art direction reinterprets 1970s–1990s advertising and visual archives, animated with an ironic and poetic tone — between memory and fiction. A tribute to the culture of the past, but also to the contemporary vitality of the place, where design, heritage and conviviality meet with effortless elegance.
This Christmas on the Canal Saint-Martin promises to be a suspended moment — a month of warmth, design and light for those who love to shop differently, give meaningfully, and take the time to wander.
